A real disappointment!
If we’re to transition from fossil fuels and improve our environment with cleaner and better equipment, this isn’t the way to do so. I like, and now own several Ryobi tools and equipment—large and small. So, please believe me when I’m recommending the Ryobi tool design team that they MUST get back to the design stage and completely redesign this edger. The design concept is great, but this edger absolutely sucks! I don’t mind paying more for something that’s going to make life and work better a more enjoyable experience. After selling my gas-operated drop-wheel edger, I was determined to wait for a battery-operated replacement. I currently own an 80 volt edger, which has lots of power to make the job easy. However, it’s hard on the back as it’s just a plain single edger. When I saw this Ryobi edger, I looked forward to purchasing it. My wife intervened and purchased it for my birthday, and I was really looking forward to using it. I became very doubtful during the unboxing and realized that it was mostly cheap plastic without any form of rigidity for an outdoor tool of this caliber. After setting it up, both rear wheels were out of alignment, with the left wheel having a significant amount vertical play. The top guard covering the blade shook violently, causing the tool to be extremely loud. The thin metal curb guard would not remain in place, causing the tool to constantly jump with the blade grinding against the concrete. After ten minutes of trying to make this thing work, I had to stop, clean it, and prepare to return it to the store. BTW, never attempt to hose this down with the battery installed. The cover allows water to get into the battery compartment. I always remove my batteries from my garden tools before cleaning—it’s just good, safe practice.
I recommend Ryobi taking a look at Champion’s Model #100731
79cc Walk Behind Lawn Edger, and produce a comparable alternative solution.

Interesting look, great functionality.
Never saw a blade that looked like this till I got my Ryobi. It isn't like the typical rectangle blade but it works as well or better than one. A little pricey compared so not 100% sure it'll be my go-to but haven't tried a "regular" blade on my new edger yet so we'll see.

Ryobi edger & blade
I love my edger!! I bought an extra blade thinking the one that came with the edger would wear out quickly with St Augustine grass and lots of sidewalk. But the original blade is still doing a great job! Love my Ryobi lawn tools.
